“Evermore Interviews” is our interview series on how health, diet & fitness relate to the purpose of inspiring trendsetters, entrepreneurs and artists.
This week we introduce to you Alanna Baker – a real-life circus run-away. Alanna has been a gymnast all her life, in 2011 she became a European Champion in Sports Acrobatics and today she travels the world with Cirque Du Soleil. Alanna proved that only YOU can define success and the ‘traditional path’ is not the only way there. Watch this space because she’s been raising the bar for the past 26 years and she’s not about to stop now.
In one sentence, how would you describe your life’s purpose?
Waking up every day with a positive, motivating, strong mindset and being able to share that with those around me.
When did you first become aware of it?
I think ever since I was into gymnastics training seriously (competing for GB), I had that fire from within.
How does your health contribute to keeping you on track?
My health is my number 1. As someone who performs and works out for a living it’s kinda crucial.
How did your fitness & diet get to where they are today?
I’ve been a gymnast all my life, so I grew up being fit. However I got more and more into fitness 3 years ago and decided to change my ways, becoming healthier and stronger. I started lifting and challenging myself to new levels, which also made me more confident. When you start to see changes it becomes an addiction!
What was the toughest point in your career’s journey and how did you kick back from it?
Once I’d finished competing there was that patch where it was kind of like.. I need to continue training hoping something comes along from Cirque Du Soleil but how long do you wait? Through a positive mindset, focus and determination I kept myself busy and suddenly all that hard work paid me back and I got the call from Cirque Du Soleil.
What was the moment in which you first realised you’re really onto something?
When I won the European Championships in 2011 in sports acrobatics I was like.. if I put my mind to something and work hard enough ANYTHING is possible.
What’s the biggest satisfaction you get from what you do?
Being a part of Cirque Du Soleil, being able to live my dream every day (which I love to be able to say at the age of 26), seeing the light and smile on the audience’s faces, filling them with happiness and joy, taking them to another world for a moment is what brings me so much satisfaction.
Your favorite health hack…
ACV shot every morning.
Your favorite productivity hack…
Fail to prepare, prepare to fail.
Your mantra to motivate yourself anytime…
‘No ones gunna do it for you, how bad do you want it?’ – training.
‘Go for it baby, life ain’t no dress rehearsal’ – performing.
‘Everything happens for a reason’ – life.
What are your future plans and the next big goals you’re going after?
I always like to push my boundaries and set goals that scare me (if not, they’re not big enough). Fitness-wise I want to keep growing with my knowledge, spreading positivity and win at a WBFF PRO show. Performance-wise I want to be in a new Cirque Du Soleil creation and then end up in a resident show in Vegas in the years to come.
